Brown University sophomore Justin Dunn spent his summer teaching a 4-week English curriculum to teenagers at the Providence public library through the SPRINT-iProv fellowship. Moving away from traditional worksheets, Dunn focused on real-world skills by taking students to practice speaking English with cashiers at a local Maruichi market and helping them write professional résumés. During the program, Dunn discovered that several of his library co-workers were immigrants who had originally learned English through the very same library programs.
Practical, community-based language lessons help immigrant youth build immediate confidence for employment and integration.
