Dr. Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, wife of the Sokoto State Governor, presided over the graduation of 300 women from a state-sponsored vocational training scheme. The initiative, which cost over N150m, trained 50 women per trade across tailoring, knitting, weaving, henna artistry, beadwork, and shoe/bag manufacturing. To ensure immediate business startup, graduates received tailored packages of machinery and cash grants up to N100,000. Dr. Aliyu urged the beneficiaries to resist the temptation of selling off their start-up equipment and to utilize their newly acquired skills.
The initiative aims to drive grassroots wealth creation and poverty alleviation for women in Sokoto.
