Gabriela Aramayo, a 46-year-old food industry engineer and mother of two, successfully completed the Grande Traversée du Mercantour, establishing the first recorded female time for the route. She completed the 237.88-kilometer mountain crossing, which features 13,755 meters of elevation gain, in 83 hours, 51 minutes, and 10 seconds. Starting alone on September 16, she was supported along the way by a team of friends. Following her achievement, Aramayo has launched a new association aimed at building a community and encouraging more women to participate in ultratrails, where female participation remains low.
She established a female record to encourage women to take on extreme trail challenges.
