An intense drought and record-low water levels in the Danube River have exposed dozens of Nazi warships scuttled by Germany in September 1944 to slow the Soviet advance. Visible on the Serbian and Romanian border, many of these vessels remain in place because they are still believed to carry dangerous explosives. Other WWII remnants, including a German military motorcycle in Budapest and an unexploded 700kg British bomb in Slovakia, have also been uncovered as extreme heat grips central and eastern Europe.
