Who is actually winning the global race for artificial intelligence dominance in the eyes of the public? A massive new global poll reveals that China is eclipsing the United States as the perceived AI superpower across most of the world.
The survey of over 18,000 people across 15 countries conducted by research firm Public First shows a dramatic shift in public opinion. While just over half of Americans and majorities in Japan, India, and Vietnam still see the US as dominant, 11 other countries now point to China as the leader.
This includes close American allies like France, Canada, and the United Kingdom, who now view Beijing as the primary force in artificial intelligence. The gap is even more stark in Germany, where a notable 23% of respondents saw the United States as the dominant power.
Taken together, observers point out that Silicon Valley's long-held lead in this defining technology race is no longer being taken for granted by the global public.
