What the video says

A $965 billion valuation is hanging in the balance as Anthropic resolves a historic 2-week standoff with the federal government. The San Francisco AI startup has restored global access to its powerful Fable-5 model after the Trump administration relaxed unprecedented export controls that had paralyzed the company's operations.

The crisis began in mid-June when Washington banned foreign nationals from using Fable-5 and Mythos-5 over national security fears that hostile actors could jail Fable break their guardrails. Because that ban blocked foreign users globally and even applied to Anthropic's own overseas staff, the company had to take the paradigm-shifting step of suspending access for everyone.

To resolve the crisis, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had to navigate intense pressure, including government requests to voluntarily pull Fable off the market entirely. A breakthrough emerged last week when the government allowed Mythos to go to over 100 select U.S.

companies and federal agencies, signaling a thawing of the freeze. Now, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirms that Washington spent 2 weeks working with Anthropic to ensure Fable has alignment with American interests.

Under this historic truce, Anthropic will pre-release its frontier models to federal authorities so they can test them for vulnerabilities before any public launch. The startup will also collaborate with cloud giants Amazon, Microsoft, and Google to establish a new industry-wide framework for assessing model risks.

Anthropic hopes this collaboration will serve as the basis for systematic rules across the whole industry and offer a template for global coordination. But the stakes for keeping this fragile peace are incredibly high, as Anthropic prepares for a highly anticipated initial public offering to compete with rival OpenAI.

With SEC paperwork already submitted, any renewed hostility with the administration could derail their IPO plans and leave their public market dreams at the mercy of federal regulators.
