Touchscreen MacBooks Are Coming

14 inches is the critical dimension defining Apple's next major laptop overhaul. Sources indicate a completely revamped entry-level MacBook Pro is currently in active development.

The new 14-inch model is targeting a launch in the first half of 2027. This redesign will align closely with Apple's highly anticipated touchscreen MacBooks.

Those touchscreen laptops are scheduled to arrive between the end of this year and early next year. They are reported to feature a Dynamic Island-like pill at the top of the screen.

But users won't have to wait until 2027 for a basic hardware refresh. Apple finished work months ago on an interim base MacBook Pro upgrade.

That minor update keeps the current laptop design. It is scheduled to launch later this year.

The company last updated its base MacBook Pro in October with an M5 chip bump. Now, development is shifting toward the next generation.

Apple is already working on an M6 processor to power its upcoming machines. A rapid transition to the M7 line will follow in 2027, including new Pro and Max variants.

Laptops are not the only devices getting attention. Apple is also testing 4 new iPad Pro models for a spring launch.

These upcoming tablets will retain their familiar 11-inch and 13-inch screen sizes. The focus for this release is strictly on internal improvements.

This tablet update follows the previous iPad Pro refresh from last October, which introduced the M5 chip. The upcoming hardware roadmap shows a clear shift in Apple's design philosophy: laptops and tablets are evolving in parallel.

These changes will eventually unite the Mac lineup under a cohesive, touch-enabled interface.
