This milestone represents a high-conviction bet on agentic systems, moving AI from simple digital assistants to a core operating layer in high-stakes physical environments. The journey began back in 2015 when the company first started applying traditional AI, analytics, and predictive models to its massive volumes of asset data.
Now, they are utilizing a specialized AI copilot called Startup Advisor to help panel operators manage the highly complex process of starting liquefied natural gas plants. According to Digital Vice President Andrew Mallooney, Woodside's maintenance intelligence solution is already projected to reduce maintenance hours by up to 15% over 5 years on a pilot asset.
While managing 50 active agents is highly feasible, Mallooney notes that scaling to hundreds or thousands of agents remains the next major hurdle the company is leaning into.
