On Wednesday, discussions shifted to auto research, which Introspection co-founder Roland Gavrielescu explained allows agents to study and maintain their own systems. Anthropic engineer Tharik Shahipar noted that these models are grown rather than developed, adapting continuously as we use them.
Yet former Google engineering leader Adi Osmani delivered a decisive counterpoint, arguing that while agents can run the inner execution loops, the outer loop must remain human engineering. This tension was felt across disciplines, with Notion's Jeffrey Litt calling the concept of software factories a depressing vision of the future, Adobe's Carlos Sanchez also warned that fully generating brand websites risks straying outside guidelines, proving that humans must still define the goals.
Ultimately, the conference highlighted that while agents can observe and improve other agents, human sensitivity and taste remain the defining line.
