Global Order Under Threat

Could the very rules that prevented a Third World War be crumbling before our eyes? Speaking at the 14th World Peace Forum in Beijing, former Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding delivered a stark warning about global security.

He cautioned that a resurgence of isolationism, disguised as nationalism, now poses a serious threat to our shared global architecture. The current international system was built after World War II, a conflict that claimed 80 million lives, to ensure such devastation would never happen again.

Golding argues this international order now needs a drastic overhaul to make it equitable, pointing out a deep tension where poor nations are forced to compete as equals with rich ones. This economic imbalance is massive, with developing nations purchasing $6 trillion in trade from developed countries annually.

As geopolitical tensions rise, Golding warns that failing to pursue peaceful coexistence risks the absolute annihilation of human progress.
