Golding argues that the current international order is under serious threat from a resurgence of isolationism disguised as nationalism.— This growing instability directly threatens the economic mutuality of nations, which is deeply evident in global commerce. All told, the annual value of trade flowing from developed nations to poor and developing countries amounts to almost $6 trillion.
According to Golding, this massive trade network represents about 20% of the gross domestic product of developed countries. Proving that their prosperity is locked together.
Yet under current rules, small nations with paltry economic and military power are forced to compete as equals against global giants. Golding insists that leaders must change course and overhaul this unequal system, or risk a conflagration that will destroy 80 years of global progress.
