The word "load-bearing" is used over 7,500 times more frequently in Claude code than by humans writing about software. This massive linguistic gap was uncovered by developer Archie Wood, who analyzed 175 of his own local chat transcript files, totaling 140 megabytes of data.
To find the model's most overused terms, Wood compared his chats against a public dataset of Stack Overflow comments containing 1.72 billion words of human coding discussions. The landmark analysis revealed a list of highly repetitive claudisms, including the word "gating," used 762 times more than humans, and "de dup" appearing at 649 times the human rate.
Other terms like "decisive" and "verdict" also scored over 600 times higher in the AI's responses than in typical developer conversations, This world-class repetition isn't just a random quirk, as Wood points out that the term "load-bearing" is actually written directly into the system prompt, instructing Claude to report its findings. The study suggests that these repetitive patterns are a direct consequence of the system prompts guiding the flagship model's behavior.
