AI Phishing Shield Broken

Why are traditional email security systems suddenly failing to stop modern spear phishing? According to Aegis AI, hackers are increasingly using AI to instantly craft highly convincing messages that bypass legacy rules more than half the time.

To fight back, former Google security executives Sy Kormay and Ryan Luo launched Aegis AI last year to deploy advanced AI agents that analyze emails just like a human would, These specialized agents can spot tiny anomalies and malicious PDF attachments with built-in passwords that traditional if-then logic misses entirely. This agentic defense has already attracted dozens of customers, including MASH, LangChain, and Locker.

Now, the startup has secured a $36 million Series A funding round led by Battery Ventures, bringing its total capital to $49 million. Co-founder Sy Kormei notes that building advanced investigative agents will ultimately determine who becomes the next dominant Security company.
