Instead, universities are pivoting to oral exams, in-person proctoring, and project-based assessments to verify actual student knowledge. This shift is driven by deep anxiety, with 87% of educators fearing student dependency on these automated tools.

Their fears are well-founded, as researchers documented that developers using AI assistants scored 17% lower on follow-up tests. With 64% of teachers now focusing on code comprehension over writing code from scratch, the entire discipline is being redefined.
