Samsung has achieved an incredibly thin profile with its Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, but it comes with an unforgiving compromise. A Reddit post by user u/GoodBreadfruit3577 exposed the device's guts, revealing it completely lacks a vapor chamber.
To keep the hardware cool, the ultra-thin foldable relies entirely on a basic graphite sheet. When completely unfolded, the device measures just 4.1mm thick, making it 27% thinner than the iPhone Air.
This engineering feat will cost United States consumers a massive $2,099.99 for the base storage model. That premium price tag means buyers are trusting a simple graphite sheet to cool the advanced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.
Reports show this specific chip is so powerful it can thermal throttle even on devices equipped with active cooling fans. Without a robust vapor chamber, analysts warn the phone will likely suffer from severe thermal throttle during intensive tasks.
The incredibly confined chassis leaves very little physical space to properly dissipate heat when the processor is pushed hard. This thermal struggle is expected to get even worse for users trying to run heavy tasks in humid or harsh climates.
