Microsoft is reportedly planning to bring legendary Xbox 360 games to PC, handheld systems, and its upcoming Project Helix console. A leaked developer document reveals that creators can opt in to this backward compatibility program, setting their own prices or launching on Game Pass.

These titles are highly likely to support Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing you to buy a game once and play it across the entire ecosystem. This massive shift was first teased when data miners discovered Microsoft's official Xbox 360 emulator, x03, hidden inside PC files.

To bridge the physical divide, Microsoft is also preparing a "Disc to Digital" program to convert physical discs into digital licenses. The public beta for this conversion tool was scheduled for July but appears to be delayed, pushing past its original August rollout.

Meanwhile, the initiative to bring original Xbox games to PC is set to expand with a full launch this October. By uniting these generations, Microsoft is laying the groundwork for an all-digital future where your library survives on any hardware.

Gamers can expect this massive backward compatibility program to roll out gradually over the next couple of years.
