The gaming industry just had its biggest year ever, defying all expectations! 🎮

What the video says

You might think the gaming industry is shrinking after a wave of massive studio layoffs, but it actually just had its biggest year ever. A new report from Newzoo reveals the global games market closed out 2025 at an eye-catching $201.6 billion, marking a 9.1% jump year over year.

This industry-shaking record crossed the $200 billion threshold for the first time, defying weaker-than-expected console performance from Nintendo. PC gaming led this massive sea change with its strongest growth rate yet, surging 12% to reach $43.6 billion.

A huge variety of games drove the PC boom, from full-priced mega-hits like Battlefield 6 to cheaper acclaimed titles like Claire Obscur. While mobile gaming still brought in the most cash at over $113 billion, console growth was incredibly modest at just under 3%.

Now, analysts are placing a high-conviction bet on Grand Theft Auto 6 to hit the market like an atom bomb and act as the defining commercial catalyst for 2026.
