Luna Abyss Team Laid Off
A critically acclaimed game wasn't enough to save this studio. 💔 Here is what happened to the Luna Abyss team.
What the video says
"The entire team has been made redundant in a decision completely outside of our control." That was the message from Qwally Labs CEO Holly Emery, announcing the sudden layoff of the 9 developers behind the first-person bullet hell Luna Abyss. The devastating news arrived on June 16th, less than a month after the game launched on May 21st.
The title had earned critical praise for its unique, fast-paced fusion of pattern-dodging action and first-person shooting. Yet, despite the warm reception, the picture that emerges is one where critical acclaim simply failed to translate into strong sales.
SteamDB tracked a peak concurrent player count of only 317 players for the game. That number eventually dwindled to a notable low of just 43 concurrent players.
Now, the entire 9-person development team is suddenly back on the market, looking for new roles.
