Three distinct entries in one franchise will soon live side by side without killing each other off. This is the high conviction bet for the upcoming Guild Wars 3.
ArenaNet studio head Colin Johanson confirmed the new title will land near the middle of the MMO spectrum. It is a pivotal shift for the flagship release.
While the original Guild Wars was a cooperative online RPG, the second was a true blue MMO. The third entry will not replicate the large-scale gameplay pillars of its predecessor.
Johansson explained this ensures all three games can coexist as different experiences on different timelines.
