What the video says
Spyro fans are witnessing a massive, industry-shaking shift as the purple dragon suddenly enters a lucrative new era. Following the critical announcement of a brand-new series entry called Spyro: A Realm Beyond earlier this month, a native PC port of the original PS1 classic has suddenly emerged.
Speedrunner LumaLora revealed gameplay footage of the original game running natively on Windows 11 at 60 frames per second with true widescreen and perspective-correct textures. This crucial fan-made project is powered by a new decompilation and recompilation hybrid called OpenPeat, built by developers Aimek and Tyscorp.
While some recent fan projects have been heavily criticized for relying on AI-powered vibe coding, this substantive build is being made with absolutely no AI. Though the project only covers the first game for now, the developer suggests that both classic PlayStation sequels could theoretically be easily supported in the future.
With the Reignited Trilogy having already sold over 11 million copies, this native PC port is poised to be an important, high-stakes victory for dedicated speedrunners. Playtesters suggest the full public release is coming much sooner than we all think, bringing the classic game to modern hardware with zero polygon wobble.
