Saylor sells $216M BTC
Saylor’s first Bitcoin sale in years—$216M gone. Is this the start of a $1.25B liquidity play or a confidence crisis?
What the video says
In a move that shocked the crypto world, Strategy just sold $216 million worth of Bitcoin, its largest sale ever. The company offloaded 3,588 Bitcoin between June 29th and July 5th, averaging $60,773 per coin, below what it paid to accumulate them.
This isn't just a sale; it's the first test of Michael Saylor's financing overhaul, unveiled just days before the transaction. Proceeds went straight to preferred stock distributions and topping up Strategy's dollar reserve, now sitting at $2.55 billion.
But the overhaul authorized up to $1.25 billion in Bitcoin sales, meaning this could be just the beginning of a much larger liquidity play. Strategy still holds 843, 7705 Bitcoin, worth about $53 billion, but its stock trades at $89, far below its $100 par value.
With two $1 billion share buyback programs also in play, the high-stakes bet is clear: shore up cash or risk further erosion of confidence. After years of aggressive accumulation, this sale marks a dramatic shift, one that could redefine Strategy's future.
