Why do massive industrial plants make critical operating decisions using less than 8% of the data they actually collect? To solve this significant fragmentation, London-based startup Applied Computing has secured a $20 million Series A funding round led by KBR.

The funding is confirmed to accelerate their multimodal foundation model called Orbital, which bridges this massive data gap. On balance, observers point out that Orbital merges sensor readings, physics-based equations, and language models to predict a facility's state.

This allows operators to run simulations, seeing how a change in one pipeline affects chemistry throughout the plant. It is evident that this approach compresses complex engineering investigations that previously took days or weeks down to mere seconds.

With the capital, the startup has opened a Houston office to support North American clients deploying this predictive technology.
