Most deployed agents are still just single prompt chatbot wrappers, yet organizations are consolidating fast onto major model platforms to run them. Anthropic's Claude is the primary orchestration platform for 40% of surveyed enterprises, This is more than double any competitor.
Microsoft logs 18% of the market, while OpenAI holds 13%. These platforms are chosen for their underlying model gravity.
But the infrastructure is being built well ahead of the actual portfolios. Commentators note that 71% of these systems are not doing anything an orchestration layer is actually for.
Furthermore, more than a quarter of these enterprises cannot even stop a runaway agent in real time to prevent budget-draining token burn. To avoid vendor lock-in, over half of these organizations expect their future control planes to be hybrid.
The critical question now is whether their deployed agents will ever catch up to the complex platforms built to run them.
