Doubling Export Capacity
Canada's national significance project just awarded its core automation contract. Here is how LNG Canada is doubling output in Kitimat.
What the video says
28 million tons of LNG per year. Yokogawa Corporation of America was selected as main automation contractor for LNG Canada Phase 2 in Kitimat.
The selection came from JGC-Floor BCLNG2 joint venture to automate the full expansion. The project doubles the export facility's production capacity, from 14 to 28 million tons per annum.
Phase 2 adds processing trains 3 and 4, an extra storage tank, and a condensate loading berth. Phase 1 began LNG production in June 2025, reaching facility handover in October 2025.
Canada's government designated Phase 2 as a project of national significance. Yokogawa's build features its CENTUM VP control system and ProSafe RS safety instrumented system.
The scope extends to operator training simulators, asset management, and cybersecurity infrastructure. This expands the automation platform built in Phase 1 across all new utility systems.
Reusing Phase 1 architecture is expected to improve project execution efficiency and cut integration risks. Executive Koji Nakaoka stated, "Building on Phase 1 provides the foundation to support safe lifecycle operations."
