Soderbergh Takes Over The Batman 2
A shocking director swap on set! Here is why Steven Soderbergh is completing the final weeks of shoot for The Batman 2.
What the video says
Steven Soderbergh is finishing The Batman 2. DC Studios confirmed the Oscar-winning director stepped in during a sudden production shift on the major superhero tentpole.
Warner Bros. had already paused shooting on the highly anticipated sequel earlier in October.
Soderbergh approached the studio directly as an admirer of the director's vision to offer full assistance on set. Soderbergh publicly called the previous Batman film "stunning, intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent." His goal is generating new footage that will integrate seamlessly with what was already shot.
Matt Reeves clarified on X that he is not leaving the production entirely. Reeves voiced profound gratitude for Soderbergh coming to his aid during a challenging period.
Robert Pattinson returns as the Caped Crusader, alongside Scarlett Johansson, Colin Farrell, and Sebastian Stan. The original movie released in March 2022, before DC announced the sequel at CinemaCon that same year.
Warner Bros. initially set the sequel's theatrical release for October 2, 2026.
The studio later delayed the premiere to October 1, 2027. In June, the film experienced another shift, pushing its release to February 2028.
Both directors will work closely with the cast and crew to fulfill the project's creative direction. Matt Reeves temporarily stepped off set for a family matter, with Soderbergh handling the final weeks of principal photography.
