Minaj Rally Appearance Sparks Backlash
From press secretary rumours to onstage rally moments, see what happened when Donald Trump hosted Nicki Minaj at a Michigan campaign event.
What the video says
Donald Trump just commented on Nicki Minaj's body. The president made the remarks at a midterm campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan.
Hours earlier, White House Communications Director Stephen Chung posted a video aboard Air Force One. Chung shared footage of the rapper playfully suggesting she could be the next White House press secretary.
Minaj reposted the clip with American flag and laughing emojis after giving followers a plane tour. That tease followed Katie Zachariah transitioning out of the press secretary role after only 5 days.
Trump revealed he told Zachariah to reconsider to avoid being brutalized by the media. Zachariah later shared a photo with Trump, writing that it was an honor to work for him.
At the Michigan rally, Minaj joined Trump on stage to reaffirm her political endorsement. Minaj told the crowd, "President Trump, it is an honor to stand with you every single time, and I will continue to support you forever and ever." She promised to support him again if he runs, despite constitutional second-term limits.
Trump encouraged Minaj to stand up and display her figure, remarking that it was hard to miss. He told the rally crowd he hoped she was not insulted, adding that they love her.
Trump then delivered the comment, "By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before, Nicki Minaj."
