HBO Reboots Hitchcock Classic
Thirty-two years after a failed sequel ruined the franchise, HBO is reviving Alfred Hitchcock's iconic horror story with a massive TV star.

Sarah Snook is starring in HBO's reboot of The Birds. Deadline reports HBO is developing a limited series based on director Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 horror film.
The original story sees vicious birds attack a coastal town and holds a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score. That landmark film influenced giant creators like Stephen King, Guillermo del Toro, and John Carpenter.
However, earlier franchise extensions failed, starting with the 1994 TV sequel The Birds II: Land's End. Director Rick Rosenthal famously scrubbed his name from that film, adopting the infamous Alan Smithee pseudonym instead.
A planned movie remake in 2007 was later announced, only to collapse in pre-production. A 2017 BBC series based on Daphne du Maurier's novella suffered the exact same fate.
Now, 32 years after that failed sequel, HBO is taking on the story's legendary legacy. Harry Potter franchise veteran David Heyman is on board to produce the new limited series.
The upcoming adaptation echoes HBO's murder mystery Sharp Objects, with a dark psychological tone. Sarah Snook takes center stage as Myra Massie, a mother caught in an unsettling town crisis.
In this story, violent bird swarms are mysteriously linked to a string of unresolved local deaths. That creative team includes veteran producers known for crafting intense television dramas.
That unique blend forces the protagonist to face terrifying avian violence, alongside human cruelty. The series follows character Myra Massie tackling both a serial killer and deadly birds, written by Tom Specialley.
